Samsung teases Exynos 2400, which its foundry will produce alongside Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Samsung is teasing the Exynos 2400, a chip that
will be produced alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by Samsung's foundry. The
Exynos name has faced some criticism, leading Samsung to incorporate Snapdragon
chips in the Galaxy S23 series. However, it appears that the upcoming Galaxy
S24 series will use the Exynos 2400.
At the recent Samsung Developer Conference, the
Exynos 2400 was partially unveiled, providing a glimpse into its capabilities.
The chip boasts an updated Xclipse 940 GPU, developed in collaboration with
AMD, a CPU that is 1.7 times faster, and AI performance that is 14.7 times
faster.
According to Samsung, the Exynos 2400 processor
delivers significant improvements in computing performance. It offers a 1.7
times increase in CPU performance and an impressive 14.7 times boost in AI
performance compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 2200. Samsung has even
introduced a new AI tool for upcoming smartphones, showcasing text-to-image AI
generation using the Exynos 2400 reference board.
While more details are yet to be revealed, rumors
suggest that the Exynos 2400 will find its way into devices from the Galaxy S24
series. The Elec has reported that Samsung intends to divide the Galaxy S24 and
Galaxy S24+ models between Snapdragon and Exynos. Exynos chips will be used in
Korea and Europe, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be exclusive to the Galaxy
S24 Ultra, irrespective of the region.
In an interesting development, it has been noted
that Samsung's LSI foundry will handle the production of both the Exynos 2400
and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Both products will be manufactured by Samsung
Electronics' foundry division.
Considering the current situation where TSMC's
3nm process capacity is largely allocated to Apple, it could make sense for
Qualcomm to shift to Samsung. However, it is a risky move given the substantial
efficiency gains observed in previous Snapdragon generations produced by TSMC.
Recent rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could launch with 3nm and 4nm
versions, although both are reportedly being manufactured by TSMC.
